Political distortions in public investment funding – The case of German hospital care
Funded by Fritz Thyssen Foundation
Adam Pilny receives funding for his research project on "Political distortions in public investment funding – The case of German hospital care". It is funded by Fritz Thyssen Foundation and the project duration of 24 months starts in October 2018.
This research project will examine if political factors affect the magnitude and the allocation of public capital funding in German hospital care. Since the German states and the state health ministers have the political power exclusively to decide on the amount of funds to be allocated and which hospitals to fund, this unique institutional setting gives rise to analyze the causal impact of electoral cycles, the governments’ ideology or the professional background of the health ministers on public capital funding of hospitals.
